Pressing on

Hey Beth here, we're currently in the minibus travelling back south to Bellwood, blogging on pastor Danny's phone. It's been a very busy few days we had two church meetings and 3 open air meetings where we were able to share the gospel it was great as we started with a few people and as we sang over the speakers the crowd grew it was so amazing. We had a good night's sleep. In the morning we took the children our to play games and Erica told the story 'you are special' where the boy in the story has sports and they represent sin, during the story Chris watched as a small Hindu girl took all her spots off an amazing sight. After that we travelled to Polannaruwa and stayed in a very interesting hotel where we had frogs in our bathrooms and lots of other visitor's! We did an amazing church service today Dave T preached and then we did lots of ministry including praying for healing and legs to grow and the holy spirit moves powerfully, we have all been touched by the spirit and God has moved so powerfully. We've also Been giving out lots of toiletries and gifts for the children we've brought the students new flip flops and they are so grateful so thank everyone at home who helped us raise money and donated lots of toiletries. As I'm writing this we've just stopped and are watching two elephants in the wild what an amazing god we serve he has blessed us so much need to go as the phone battery is dying

Lots of love to u all

Late night blog!

Hi everyone, Alice here ... Thank you for your comments, keep them coming!

We are all safe and well and having an extremely exciting time here.  It's been all go, full on and thrilling.  The tally of wildlife we have seen grows daily although we haven't seen an elephant  in the wild yet!

Yesterday we travelled for many miles to a church in a very poor area.  We did a kids programme outside the church (which was really only a shelter) whilst Dave preached to the adults inside.  We gave everyone gifts which they were so blessed with.

Today we've done five meetings (six if you include the one Dave preached in while the team went to another location to do a kids programme).  This includes three open airs.  It's been a long but fantastic day and even after all that we were able to unwind with our Sri Lankan friends and have some fun dancing and playing silly games.

Our spirits are high but we will all have to dig deep physically for another busy couple of days with much travelling included.

Thank you for reading.  I'm not sure when we get wifi access again but please continue to pray for us.

Still pressing on

Hi it's Vicky,

Wow what an adventure we're having! I'm going to tell you all about Monday which started at 3 am!  Packed with teddies, loom bands, lion masks and lots of water we were on our way south to a children's home. One hour into a five hour journey David Turner (DT) felt sick due to the winding bends and speed we were travelling at. Shortly after we stopped again this time for Sam who was shortly followed by Erica. Just short of six hours later, looking white as a sheet and tired plus numerous sickness stops we had arrived at the children's home.

We were greeted by Little Suresh who had laid on tea, biscuits and toast, it was then into the church to meet the children.  The children put on a welcome dance for us which Suresh said they had been practicing for weeks. We then did our programme. The children were a little hesitant to begin with but were soon joining in with the songs. Once we had finished we then did some face painting with them   and handed out modelled balloons. Teddies and loom bands were then handed out to them all. As it was Megan's birthday they brought out a cake and sang to her. Each kissing her after. The joy in their smiles and the loved they showed was just amazing to see. We had prayer time after this and the children were lost in wonder by the holy spirit. A few more songs and it was time to wave goodbye to these little darlings. We wanted to take them back in our cases but customs may of had a problem with this!

A smooth non sickness journey back getting through Bellwood doors just before midnight we then had soup before deciding to go in search of fireflies.
A truly magical end to an incredible, heart warming day.
Oh we found out also that one stretch of the road should of taken us 2.5 hours, we did this in 45 minutes which explains why so many were sick.
A day of rest tomorrow then it's onward to Jaffna!

Latest update from the team

At last we have another chance to blog.  We are sorry not to have posted any photos so far but it is proving very hard to get online.

We are having an awesome time.  We are all safe.  Keep up the prayers.  Here's Beth .....

We've been to Nuwara Eliya which was a 4 hour journey stopping at a tea factory and strawberry farm. We arrived at a very poor village where there were lots of lovely children and as we arrived we got a round of applause. The children here are loving singing our impact song your amazing and are great at jumping clapping and shouting it is so great to see them passionate about jesus they don't hold back it's brill! We gave out loom bands and ballons which they really love and they all want two. The bus broke down as we arrived and the breaks went which on hilly mountain roads isn't fun so we had to wait to get them fixed but they were only half fixed we need to pray that the whole problem is fixed. David and Sam have stayed behind to preach there in the morning the rest of the team have gone back to bell wood. We are all very sleepy please pray for energy.

Today, Sunday we have had a great time at Galaha church Dave P felt at the last minute to change his sermon and the pastor said that it was from the holy spirit as they had been looking at this subject. Pip and Alice were great when delivering their testimony so powerful and we did songs including victors crown where they all join in during the chorus singing hallelujah. We also did a drama. At the end gid gave me a word that he wanted to heal someone with a throat problem a lady stood up we all layer hands on her and the whole church prayed an amazing moment. At the end we asked her how her throat was she said it was cured and that God was her doctor.  Praise the Lord. Tomorrow we have to get up at 2.30am to go to little sureshs orphanage.  Please pray for us as some team members are feeling a bit sick and tired.

Here's Chris:
I know now for sure that if God calls you to do something that he does equip you for the task ahead so trust in him and go for it.

Here's Megan:
In this packed dark small shack of a church there was happy Smiling people, I was overcome to think that I so nearly missed out on this wonderful experience - Praise God

Finally Internet!

Thanks to Roger who is on holiday here at the college we now have a hotspot working off a dongle on Steve Hammond's laptop!  So we can finally put up a blog.

Well, what can I say, the first three days have been fantastic!  We have been so blessed by so many things but most of all the welcome and hospitality of everyone here at Mount Carmel.

Today we were able to spend time in devotions and prepping for tonight and tomorrow.  In the meantime Dave P took lectures with the students for several hours.  At 3.30pm we headed out to a local village literally around the mountain side along a winding road through tea plantations.  The church was called 'Lighthouse' which was pretty amazing for us as we'd been teaching 'My Lighthouse' to three students, Joshua, Suresh and Sam.

When we arrived there were over 150 children packing out the room.  We did an hours programme with songs, dramas and testimonies and the children really responded to it all with great enthusiasm.  At the end we made balloon models and did face painting and it went quite crazy.  But it was really good to see the kids enjoying it all.

Tomorrow morning the ladies are back to the same church to take a ladies meeting.  We believe God wants us to lay hands on them and pray for healing.  Please pray for us and for The Lord to really bless these ladies through us.

Right now it is quite late and some of us are sitting around in the dark as the power has failed!  We are also getting used to cold showers as the college operate on solar power!  Definitely feels like mission.  We are loving it all, such great experiences and challenging.

Will now try and add some photos.

Love to all at home Alice
